The cockpit is six panels on a character grid, and every one of them is a design problem with no precedent to copy: how do you show a diff, a plan, a permission request and a running cost in 160 by 44 cells, at a glance, without colour you cannot rely on? You would design it — and this site, which is the cockpit's story told in the browser.
What you would do
- Own the sextant painters' visual language: layout, density, motion (there is almost none, on purpose), and the palette that has to work on a dozen terminal themes.
- Design the approval card, the plan panel and the rewind tree as they grow, in prototypes the engineers can run.
- Keep this website and the TUI saying the same thing in the same voice — the design record in
.rovecode/design.jsonis yours to extend. - Test with the people who use it, in their terminals, and bring back what you saw.
What we are looking for
- A portfolio with at least one product that has real users and real constraints — a developer tool is a plus, a terminal one a rare plus.
- Fluency with type and grids; comfort with the fact that the grid is monospace and the type is one face.
- You can read TypeScript and React well enough to change what you designed.
Process
A short note and a portfolio, a conversation, a paid design exercise on one panel, a final conversation.
